Making the most of the free government calculators

Simplify the process and use Government Calculators to do the heavy lifting

Watch Promo Start making an informed decision

15 years ago, I started offering aged care financial advice at Macquarie Bank, based on hours and hours analysing government rules and regulations, and building up a wealth of knowledge based on crunching the numbers on a whole range of different situations.

By talking to so many people, in so many different situations, I have learned the steps that need to be taken to understand the options available, and addressed points of confusion and anxiety for many Australians grappling with the challenges of placing a loved one into residential aged care.

Day after day, I speak to people in a state of crisis - where big decisions need to be made in a short amount of time, amongst hugely emotional circumstances.

It doesn't have to be like this - there are resources available to make decisions easier, and they are provided by the Government.

However, while the Government provides resources to help with the decisions, the tools are hard to find, hard to understand, and there are a number of steps that need to be taken for the tools to actually be of any help at all.

That is where this course comes in. I invite you to take advantage of my experience in finding what tools help, and help you organise your information to get the answers you need.

By applying some time to learn about the important parts of the financial side of aged care, you can prepare yourself for decisions that may be looming, but not yet at crisis point. You can become better informed before you see your financial advisor or inspect an aged care facility. And most importantly, you can arm yourself with enough knowledge to gain confidence in the decisions you make.

By completing this course you will:

  1. Get an overview of aged care costs
  2. Learn how to easily compare the cost of aged care providers using a worksheet.
  3. Understand the importance of the age pension in the aged care financial decisions.
  4. Know how to use the myagedcare Fee Estimator to get the right outcome.
  5. Use a systematic approach to work out your options - and compare them.
  6. Know where to find information from the various government websites.

Government calculators are up to date and take care of much of the heavy lifting in crunching the numbers to work out aged care costs - you just need to be organised and know how to use them.

I look forward to helping you.

Brendan Ryan has been working in Financial Services for 25 years.

After graduating with an Economics Degree from the University of Sydney, Brendan began a 20 year career at Macquarie Bank.

Whilst working at Macquarie Bank, Brendan completed a graduate Diploma in Applied Finance and Investment and qualified as a Certified Financial Planner in 2002.

Brendan has spent a lot of time working out how people interact with the Government. Whether this be the complexity of understanding how the aged care system works, how to apply for the age pension, or how to keep track of all the programs the government runs from all the different departments - you can be sure that Brendan is building a spreadsheet to help work it all out, and is thinking about how he can help people understand what they have to do to make the most of the system.

Brendan has put his heart and soul into some work he is proud of, and that has been picked up by newspapers across the country. Sadly for Brendan, all this work can get a bit lost and hard to find, when Australians are finding themselves new to situations like retirement planning, applying for the Pension Loan Scheme, Commonwealth Seniors Health Card or moving a loved one to to aged care every day.

This is a way of presenting the information in a structured and enthusiastic way, that is ready to go when someone needs to begin the journey. Brendan can put his best effort in to explain topics he is passionate about, and have the information ready to present to people - whenever and wherever they need it!

All the information is out there - nothing is secret, this is no great discovery. What Later Life Advice does is bring to you the result of hours and hours of work, the learnings of approaching and answering many, many questions, and the distillation of knowledge that is often needed to be ready to go at a time generally not of ones choosing!

The key is being organised and making the time to apply and plan.

All the hard work is done - all you need to do is take advantage of someone organising the information for you.

Brendan is the founder of Later Life Advice - a retiree focussed financial advice business. In this business, Brendan helps his clients put into practice an organised and planned approach to making the most of what is available to get the the life you want!
